The Gist
- Since 2000, Heidi Klum has hosted an annual A-list Halloween party.
- She’s worn increasingly elaborate costumes that often leave her unrecognizable.

With decades of increasingly elaborate costumes under her belt, Heidi Klum has earned the title of the queen of Halloween. In addition to more conventional costumes like Jessica Rabit and Betty Boop, Klum has chosen looks that leave her completely unrecognizable, from 2022’s worm costume to her 2011 take on the human body, in which she appeared like a biology textbook drawing, each muscle visible sans skin.

As the quintessential Halloween hostess, over the last two decades, the 51-year-old has cemented herself as a key part of the holiday. Heidi Klum as E.T.
Heidi Klum at Heidi Klums 23rd Annual Halloween Party in October 2024
Klum went extraterrestrial for her 2024 Halloween party, where she underwent a complete transformation to become the most iconic character of 1982: E.T.
“As a nine year old in Germany, E.T. introduced me to the idea that there’s life outside planet earth,” she wrote on Instagram. “So for the last year, we all put our heads together to figure out how to put my own stamp on such an iconic character.”
She continued, “I know E.T. wanted to go home, but I hope that if the movie took place in 2024 that my favorite extra terrestrial would come to my party instead.”

Heidi Klum as a Worm
Klum was again unrecognizable at her Halloween party in 2022, which she showed up to dressed as a worm. That’s right: the retired supermodel stepped into a life-sized worm-shaped costume for the night, which took multiple artists hours upon hours to create.
“This was very hard, I was very claustrophobic,” Klum later said while visiting Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “Because basically they had to tie my arms down in order to be in this position. And then my face was like glued to the outside of it, so I couldn’t really move my face any which way. I was just stuck.”

Heidi Klum as S&M Punk
For her inaugural Halloween party, Klum opted for a look that now seems tame by her own standard. A hybrid of punk meets S&M, she raised the temperature in a black latex dirndl (she is German after all) with dog tooth collars, armbands, and milkmaid-style braids.

Heidi Klum as Betty Boop
Back in 2002, Klum opted to dress as the Depression Era cartoon character Betty Boop. While this look is easily emulated in a figure-hugging red dress, cropped black curly wig, overdrawn eyebrows, and an exaggerated red lip, Klum insisted on going the extra mile with the addition of fake cleavage.

Heidi Klum as Jessica Rabbit
Speaking of a red frock and a va-va-voom faux chest… Klum put her spin on the animated sex symbol Jessica Rabbit in 2015. As it’s not exactly the world’s most original costume (Alessandra Ambrosio even showed up to the party with the same idea), Klum ensured she took the biscuit by opting for a full prosthetic makeover. Don’t try this at home!

Heidi Klum as an Old Woman
Forget relying on an AI filter to question what she might look like as an older version of herself, Klum called in the pros in 2013 with makeup artists giving her wrinkles and age spots from tip to toe. It won’t have quite the same effect, but with a walking stick, gray wig, and a tweed skirt suit, you’re halfway there.

Heidi Klum as the Human Body
One way to make people do a double take, as Klum proved in 2011, is to turn yourself inside out. A far more gory take on the classic skeleton costume, you’ll find plenty of spandex unitards revealing the inner workings of the body on sites like Amazon.

Heidi Klum as a Crow
Have access to a glue gun and artificial feathers? Say no more. Make like Klum in 2009 by transforming yourself into an eerie blackbird. Now, where did we put that stick-on beak we had lying around?

Heidi Klum as Adam & Eve’s Apple of Temptation
Little did people know that Klum was using her 2006 costume to also hide her pregnancy. Regardless of whether you’re with a child, as long as you have time and can acquaint yourself with the papier-mâche method to create a rotund apple to slip into, this could be one for you.

Heidi Klum and Her Clones
Call your gal pals! Klum’s 2016 costume didn’t involve a dramatic transformation for once—rather, she enlisted a troupe of five people to become her lookalike entourage. Right down to identical hair. Klum’s commitment to the bit can’t be underestimated.

Heidi Klum as Princess Fiona
Slime green body paint and an emerald velvet dress will get you halfway to copying Klum’s 2018 entrance as Shrek’s other half, Princess Fiona. As for where you’ll find an onion carriage similar to the one she rode in on, we’re stumped as to where to begin.

Heidi Klum as a Peacock
We’re not suggesting you hire a gaggle of Cirque Du Soleil performers to act as your peacock feathers, as Klum did in 2023. Nor do you need to have your husband accompany you as a larger-than-life egg. In the absence of all that, a royal blue velvet bodysuit, epic face paint, and some faux feathers are the next best thing.

Heidi Klum as Cleopatra
When the Queen of Halloween channels the Queen of Egypt. In 2012, Klum opted to turn herself into the ancient living goddess and ruler, complete with a face full of crystals. Save yourself the potential breakouts by opting for Cleopatra’s instantly recognizable beauty look of blue eyeshadow, strong brows, and braids instead, while a magnificent gilded cape and headpiece will seal the deal and ensure everyone bows down.

Heidi Klum as a Robot

Heidi Klum as a Gold Alien
Klum donned an alien costume in 2003, but this look is worlds away from her interpretation of an alien in 2019. This time, she went all-in on the gold spray paint, put some kind of fake snake in her hair, and rocked a plunging gold foil corset.

Heidi Klum and Seal as Apes

Heidi Klum as a Cat
Heidi Klum as a cat in 2007.
Klum looked simply purr-fect in 2007, as she showed up to party dressed as cat. This may seem like a more basic look for the extravagant star, but she looked fierce in a body suit, feline ears, whiskers, and fangs.

Heidi Klum as a Butterfly
Heidi Klum as a butterfly in 2014.
In 2014, Klum walked the NYC streets as a butterfly before showing up to her party. This being Klum, the costume included sparkling, to-scale wings taller than her, an elaborate cat suit, and a headpiece featuring bug-eyes.
“I have no problem with bugs and spiders or snakes and that kind of stuff. I like them,” Klum said in an Instagram video.
