Hits under the tree: The Christmas albums of Schlager stars
When snowflakes fall outside and the scent of gingerbread wafts through the living rooms, contemplative sounds under the Christmas tree are a must. Schlager stars have long recognized that the Christmas season needs to be musically served. From Helene Fischer (41) to Andrea Berg (59) to Roland Kaiser (73) – they have all given their fans Christmas hits. An overview of the Christmas albums of schlager stars.
Helene Fischer: “Weihnachten”
The undisputed queen of German schlager set standards back in 2015: With her album with the simple name “Weihnachten”, Helene Fischer went straight to number one on the charts. Recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London, the record combines German classics like “Lasst uns froh und munter sein” with covers of international hits like “Let It Snow” as well as duets with artists including Ricky Martin (“Last Christmas”). In 2016, a deluxe edition with a total of 43 songs followed.
She simply loves Christmas, Fischer explained according to Universal Music. “My album ‘Weihnachten’ is a musical declaration of love to this season, year after year.” In 2025, she brought this magic to children’s rooms as well when she released her second Christmas album with cover songs, “Die schönsten Kinderlieder – Winter- und Weihnachtszeit”.
Andrea Berg: “Weihnacht”
Howard Carpendale: “Happy Christmas”
Howard Carpendale (79) also re-released a record in 2025. With “Happy Christmas… Again!”, an expanded edition of his 2021 Christmas album with five new covers and personal audio messages was released. 20 years after his first Christmas album “My Christmas”, the German-South African schlager star recorded festive sounds on “Happy Christmas” together with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and landed at number three on the charts. Here too, there were classics (“Little Drummer Boy”, “Leise rieselt der Schnee”) and German versions of English originals. “Christmas gives us the chance to pause”, says the singer according to Joyn about the holiday. “The world is big, it spins fast – but during these days, one may become quieter.”
Roland Kaiser: “Weihnachtszeit”
Roland Kaiser also scored a real hit in 2021 with his second Christmas album “Weihnachtszeit”: The album made it to number three on the German album charts and was certified gold for over 100,000 units sold. “Weihnachtszeit” also features classic Christmas covers in German and English. In November 2023, the expanded edition “Goldene Weihnachtszeit” followed with five bonus tracks as well as duet partners like Maite Kelly, Helene Fischer and Michelle Hunziker. Kaiser had already released cover songs back in 2009 with “Besinnliche Weihnachten”.
Thomas Anders & Florian Silbereisen: “Das Album (Winter Edition)”
Thomas Anders (62) and Florian Silbereisen (44) were so successful with their joint duet album “Das Album” in 2020 – number one on the charts – that they immediately followed up with a winter edition. On “Das Album – Winter-Edition”, quite unusually for Christmas albums, you won’t find any covers, but rather 14 original songs that get you in the mood for the cold season with titles like “Die schönste Zeit des Jahres” or “Sommer im Dezember”. Both artists also have festive records in their solo repertoires: Anders released “Christmas for You” in 2012, Florian Silbereisen already released “Mein Adventsfest” back in 2008.
Semino Rossi: “Blanca Navidad – Weiße Weihnacht”
Semino Rossi (63) also has Christmas hits ready: With “Blanca Navidad – Weiße Weihnacht”, he released his second Christmas album this year, twenty years after “Feliz Navidad”. There are 15 Christmas songs, recorded with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, plus a collection of his most beautiful duets from two decades of his career, including with Thomas Anders or Helene Fischer. With Spanish titles, such as “Noche de Paz” as a version of “Stille Nacht”, the Argentine-born artist brings South American warmth to German living rooms.
“I love singing Christmas songs and many people love them just as much as I do”, Rossi enthused in an interview with the news agency spot on news. That’s why he’s also going on a Christmas tour for the second time before celebrating a contemplative Christmas with his family. “We decorate a beautiful Christmas tree and then there are cookies, that’s an absolute must”, he revealed. He also cooks for everyone every year, this year there will be paella.
